Jan was in Greece and Turkey with the girls for 3 weeks. So I decided to remodel the bedroom. Oy! Not a square, level, plumb, or straight wall, ceiling, floor, or corner in the room! Had to move everything into the living room and sleep on the edge of the couch with all of Jan's clothes...
Through layers of linoleum and carpet, through old old floorboards, I could see the dirt in the basement! This old house was a miner's house from over a century ago, and was dragged to it's present site sometime in the early part of the last century...
This is what I uncovered in the corner by the door. Shimming. Really?
Two huge, under-the-bed drawers...
This lovely oak bureau Jan got at a garage sale, and the mirror from her mother's house, are the only things remaining from the previous incarnation of our bedroom...
I wasn't done by the time Jan got home, but had made it usable at least.

We lost 2 beautiful old Walnut trees to disease. So we decided to make lemonade and had the trees rough milled. How sweet it's been having a huge supply of walnut wood! I used some of the rough pieces in the bedroom remodel. Click a pic to see it larger and see the beautiful wood...
